All the cities fall into a handful of types, you can see this upfront, and there's practically nothing to find outside of the cities and paths between them. You have a definite goal right from the start. You can split your fleet into as many little fleets as you can afford. There are no neutrals, no allies, just you and many, many enemies. It has a lot in common, they are both games where you lead a fleet around a 2d map between points of interest avoiding or hunting down enemy fleets, managing scarce resources, and sending selected ships into a high skill kinetic 2d action combat.ĭifferences are that there's no getting rich in highfleet, you will suffer. We are on 1.1 right now so maybe wait till 1.4 or something like that. If you are unsure whether its your type of game, I would say wait till it either drops in price, or once a couple of patches came out. Reading the manual helps but QoL is a thing so that should be done. Some of the mechanics and parts need better explanations as well. That being said that are areas of improvements, personally I would like some more parts. You spend more time adjusting dials, intercepting messages, decoding messages, messing with coordinates, fuel consumption, plotting courses, plotting intercept vectors for incoming missiles etc than you do actual fighting.įor me it is GOTY, it is exactly the game I was looking for.
